after a bad back problem which seems to be on the mend, my ham string in my right leg is always tight?
having had a mild back problem in my lower right back for several months it seems that my right ham string and upper calf have become tight and always in need of a good strech to releave the tightness. Is there any suggesions to help releave this quickly as i practice karate and it is hampering my kicks somewhat. many thanks.

- sounds like a sciatic nerve is trapped, continue doing gentle stretching exercises like trying to touch your toes or lay on your stomach and raise yourself on to your elbows while keeping your hips to the floor, but be very gentle and do not force any stretching, good luck
- apparently 'chili plasters' can help loosen and relax tight muscles. i dont know if you can buy them in big medical stores but i know there is a recipe for it on www.bbc.co.uk/growyourowndrugs you could try making them because they might help.
- Did you have an xray or MRI to check for spondylidosis or spondylolithesis? When someone has a significant slippage of the spine the muscles in the legs can be affected from the misalignment. I believe this is when the neurosurgens are needed to surgically stabilize the spine. Make sure you back problem is not more involved.
